ketchup

so, for starters, i just chose that title because it sounds like "catch up". but, now i feel like i need to share with you how much i dislike ketchup. or is is catsup. whatever. its gross. make a note: kelley dislikes ketchup. and, of course, most dairy products. i am sure this will come in handy when i come to your house for dinner.

well, in the theme of catching up, here's a quick list of things from the last week er so.

- After a fabulous jaunt to San Diego, i spent a total of roughly 20 hours sitting around airports. only to ultimately buy a southwest ticket to finally get home. SOUTHWEST for life!

- after spending more than 9 hours in the airport, i nearly missed my flight! ha. only me. turns out you have to be in the right terminal AND go through the correct security line. details, details....

- I am getting amped for American Idol! each time they widdle (or is it wittle?) away the "a'ight" from the "completely awesome" the bar gets raised. i just can't wait to watch who peaces out tonight!

- I went to a great blue grass show last night at the Station Inn. the group is called "Three Ring Circle" and they are well worth the listen. exceptionally good!

- I have been keeping busy with organizing! just wish there were more than one of me to finish jobs more quickly!

- it SNOWED yesterday! a good snow! It would come down hard and then the sun would come out and melt it all away. then it would snow again! it was a great thing to enjoy from the comfort of a warm living room!

- I'm headed to Albany, GA with Angela this weekend for our Snickers Marathon Bar Half Marathon! i can hardly believe its already here!! neither can my knees! just pray i make it and can keep up with the super-human angela!

- i wonder if i could be a vegetarian.

ok... that is the stream of consciousness for you.

hope everyone has a great end o' the week! I'm probably going to be a bit MIA as i get set for GA, but you never can tell! some stories won't tell themselves!

peace.

Wedding tidbits

Here's the dill, pickles....

There are so many fun details about the wedding that i could tell but there are a couple of reasons i won't do that in fullness right now:

1. i'm so tired it hurts. four and a half hours of sleep, roughly. this isn't good for most people but to me? brutal.

2. most of the pictures (needed to tell the stories) are on becca's camera, so i'm just waiting to see them upload!

3. i'm feeling sorry for myself about being stranded and thus paying a load o' cash for a southwest flight just to get home. just can't wait til tomorrow for standby, delta. sorry.

so, here's what i got for now:

The girls went out to celebrate julie! becca isn't in this b/c we didn't pick her up til a little later. what fun we had hitting up the downtown for delish Thai food and libations. This is after a day of cookout and softball- SO FUN!

fearless navigator with the help of the GPS! jeff came to SD and made the trip complete!

The beautiful bride! Obviously, there are better shots to follow, but check out that gorgeous dress and girl!

Becca and I as we prepare to walk out of the door for the wedding! we took one thousand shots of ourselves this weekend... it will be a wonder if we snagged a few of the wedding! :)

I think i just fell asleep with my eyes open. more details when i am not dreaming about dreaming.

its a small world after all...

OH MY WORD!!!

just when i think that the ATL airport can't provide any more excitement for me-

IN WALKS MR. P!! Oh the good times that have been had with the Philips family! this will be added to the list! :) i just happened to be in the atrium hanging with Katherine when he walked up to find his ticket in his stuff!

we thought we should pose in front of the dinosaur, naturally.

Then we got excited because he found it!

Then Mr. P was sad we couldn't all go hang out and grab a beverage, so he sponsored ours. What a guy!
I just can't tell you how small the world feels when my highschool best friend's dad walks into the airport right where i am sitting. AND how touching it is that Katherine would come spend time with me. we had such sweet time together! love it! (love you, kat!)

ON TO SAN DIEGO!! i am on the 9:15 flight. just under 12 hours here (and i am starting to look like it!) holler! ready to go. believe that.

more later!

stranded?

not really, actually...

sure- i'm currently less than airborne. sure, i thought i would be on the 2:45 flight to San Diego. sure- i have no control over the whether or not i will (hopefully) make it on the 9:15p flight out. but... i am so not stranded.

two words: concourse b.

the ATL brings more than hip hop flavor to this world... they provide amusement park-like distractions for travelers. I'm just sitting here people watching. talking regularly to Katherine (who is COMING TO THE AIRPORT TO SIT WITH ME!... i mean- how do i get friends like this?!) and chelsea (who makes me laugh so hard!)

i'm sipping on the most depressing of starbucks beverages... the mocha light frap. the customer service representative literally rolled his/her (jury's out) eyes when i ordered. whatev. i rock!

heres to bi-coastal wedding travels, reduced sugar frozen beverages, and life-long friends who brave rush hour to love me.

xoxo

Happy Trails

I feel like JUST as i get back from a trip- i leave again. that's what is happening tomorrow. this lucky girl is headed to the 'left coast' (as daddy would say) for Julie Ratchford Wedding Fest 08!
First i get to spend some time with Julie and Brian! I am really looking forward to the temperate and lovely ways of San Diego! as the threat of snow lingers in middle tennessee- i could not be leaving at a better time!

I need to just tell you about how wonderful my weekend was, friends. I took it to Camp Toknowhim. this much you know. well, as i arrived and looked around, it became REALLY obvious that this would be a memorable trip. absolutely every detail was attended to. this highschool retreat rivaled ANY resort. here are a few note worthy touches that left me voting Ken (the youth pastor friend of mine at Southwood) for PREZ!

1. There were two "reading rooms" designated for contemplation. there were ipods to digest music that drove home the theme of God's Story- the Bible as one whole true tale. there were portable DVD players to show related films. there was a Daniel Harm's painting that deserved the attention the room fostered. these were two fabulous oasis.

2. the food was enchanted. it was so delicious that i ate until it hurt. the reason to feed high schoolers expensive and unbelievably good food? to remind them they're worth more than pizza. i love that.

3. ken instituted a few "discipline of silence" times during the weekend. time to be quiet and read. or sleep. or whatev. just quiet. i can't even tell you what that did for me.

4. we each got a copy of the "Jesus Storybook Bible" by Sally Lloyd-Jones. it has changed my life somehow. read it. get it. give it. theres just not enough time for me to tell you what the simplicity communicated to my heart. more on this to follow.

5. the drive to and fro was delightful and uneventful. something i always appreciate. the most excitement i enjoyed was when i contemplated a corn dog at the gas station in Murfreesboro but, at the last second, opted out.

i love the feeling when you know you are exactly where you want to be with exactly the people you want to be there with.

ok- i've got a plane to catch and i need to start laundry! eek!

MORE from Cali soon! (or the airport, care of wifi if we're lucky).

peace.

On the Road Again...

I am headed out the door to a youth retreat in Pisgah, AL. I will be kicking it with the youth from Huntsville's Southwood Presbyterian Church. A wonderful time will be had by all at.... wait for it....

CAMP TOKNOWHIM. yep. real name.

I bid you farewell for the long weekend. pictures and tall tales to follow, no doubt!

ps. Valentines was ridiculously fun as chelsea and i decorated Nathan, David, and Stevie's house. it looked like cupid had shown up, that's all i'm sayin. AND this morning i did my very first radio appearance on the show "On the Homestretch" (www.onthehomestretch.com) and you'll be able to listen once it is uploaded. yippie!

peace out and happy pres' day!

VALENTINES DAY!

i can't help but love it.

I still remember being 8 years old and barely able to sleep because i KNEW there would be treats and valentines in my bag taped to the chalkboard.

i am pro cupid.
i am giggly.
i am baking.

for. no. particular. reason.

the end. i am a hopeless romantic who LOVES any opportunity to sing love songs at the top of my lungs.

happy VALENTINES day, friends! i'm glad for YOU!

playing it cool

this may come as a huge shock to you but i do NOT have a game face. ya know... that face most people can put on to fake normal- cool.

i am the opposite.

If something/someone impresses me, they can usually tell by the weird red spots that start to creep up my neck and ultimately fill my face with crimson red OR by the uncontrollable giggle that starts, without permission, to trickle out of my mouth like 7-up when combined with saltines.

Nashville prides ourselves on being cool- "we" just can't be bothered by the famous people others freak out about. we eat dinner next to the famous singer... whatev. we bump into the cool writer at the harris teeter... so? I do NOT fit in to this category of cool. i tend to instantly freeze and try desperately to get the attention of whoever is with me so that i don't have an anurism alone.

when i saw nichole kidman and keith urban at Frothy Monkey, i froze mid-order. the poor girl had to try and shake me like shelby in "Steel magnolias" to get my attention. i caught a glance of them in the mirror behind the counter and it was all over. they couldn't have gone LESS noticed. everyone else played it cool. i ...nearly wet my pants.

i admit all this to you because you and i are "at that level" AND because tomorrow billy currington is coming over to write with emerson. i mean- most of you don't know or care who that dude is. sure- he cut his teeth dueting with shania twain. sure, he's got curly hair like j.t. circa 02. i JUST can't help myself.

i must wake up in the morning. put on my "i'm just this cool" combo of clothing so that i look effortlessly fierce but not overdressed for a day with a 4 month old. all the while, i must appear nearly UNaware of the fact he's ever performed a day in his life. will i ever be cool or at least learn to fake it??

maybe i'll start out with, "so billy... what do you do?"

Ode to COCO

A hiaku for Courtney Strubel Armistead.

she's more than a fren
sweetly named
sisser and future hot mom

As sweet coco anticipates the birth of "jimmy jr." (no- not the real name, folks), i just can't help but get more and more excited about the fact that we're friends. it is so wonderful to have friends who love you creatively and unconditionally. for 2008, i wish you all a coco. may you be so lucky.

I LOVE YOU, birthday girl!

growing pains

cutting my teeth with the BIZ is hard.

follow up...

So- last night i definitely spent a couple hours in the basement with a four month old, three dogs (one being a chihuahua), and a cat. i was NERVOUS, folks. i am not cut out for braving tornados or hurricanes. i'm just not. and i am ok with that.

In all seriousness, PRAISE the Lord- we were totally safe and nothing happened. There are many who were not so fortunate and my heart goes out to them. what a scary ordeal. mom, dad, and others were praying for me and it was a huge comfort. thanks, guys!

In other news- codine is not my friend any more. we've broken up! i got really sick from it this morning. no good. here's hoping i sleep tonight with out it.

I'm off to watch the award winning film of the season..... thats right... "27 Dresses"! i'll give you a recap later but i'll be sure to not ruin anything for you. no spoiler here.

Half the week is over already- is that shocking to anyone else??

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

three problems...

1. I'm questioning my antibiotics... i actually feel worse. hmmm.

2. there are some tornado warnings floating around. i don't handle tornados well. especially not when late-nite babysitting for a 4 month old. we may be rocking the basement later.

3. definitely thought Hollywood week started this week. imagine my shocked sadness when there are still auditions! its ok, though. i predict the girl whose dad just died is going to win the whole thing. mark it down!

more later. i'm busy hunting down candles and flashlights!

(did i mention i have an unhealthy fear of tornados??)

semi writers block

so- there's plenty of ground to cover from the last few days yet all i can manage is a few bullet points. what can i say?

- Nate turned ONE! He had a "bookday" party! It was amazing to see my dear P's and Suns!
- got some cough syrup FINALLY that contains codine... sweet relief and sleep!
- got new running shoes. knee problem solved! turns out it was my I.T. band being tight.
- perfected cooking salmon. yum.

I promise i'll be back in full force asap. for now the codine is talking....zzzz.
